Why you’ll love it

  • Endlessly customizable – Pick your favorite fruit, your go-to sweetener, and whether or not you want to spike it with rum. The base recipe is delicious, and you can tweak it to fit your taste every time.
  • Quick and easy – No fancy equipment or mixologist skills needed. Just a glass, a muddler (or the back of a spoon), and 5 minutes.
  • Naturally sweet and fresh – The flavor of real fresh fruit shines through, balanced by fresh lime and mint for that signature mojito zing.

What is a customizable fruit mojito?

A customizable fruit mojito is the latest spin on the classic Cuban cocktail, made with fresh mint, lime, and club soda—plus the fruit and sweetener of your choice for a flavor boost. Unlike traditional mojitos, which rely solely on lime, this version lets you play with berries, melon, or tropical options like mango or pineapple. It’s vibrant, fizzy, and feels like vacation in a glass.

Is this mojito healthy?

As a registered dietitian, I love crafting recipes that feel like a treat but still offer a few nutritional perks. This customizable fruit mojito delivers just that with a perfect combo of nutrient-packed ingredients:

  • Fresh fruit adds natural sweetness, hydration, and antioxidants—especially berries, which are packed with polyphenols and vitamin C.
  • Mint can help soothe digestion, may offer relief from IBS symptoms, and brings a natural cooling sensation from its menthol compounds. flavor.

For a mocktail version, simply skip the alcohol!

And if you opt for a no-calorie sweetener like stevia or monk fruit, you can keep the sugar content super low while still enjoying a fruity treat. A 2019 report in the Journal of Nutritional Science suggests that low-cal sweeteners can help lower calorie intake and support blood sugar control, when used in place of added sugar.

What ingredients do you need?

Here’s what you’ll need to make this custom fruit mojito recipe—just adjust amounts depending on how many you’re serving!

  • Fresh mint leaves: The signature mojito herb that adds a burst of freshness.
  • Sweetener of your choice: Use sugar, honey, agave, or simple syrup—whatever you have on hand.
  • Lime wedges: For tartness and zing. Muddle well to release all the juice.
  • Fruit of your choice: Watermelon, blackberries, strawberries, or mix it up with something tropical like mango or pineapple.
  • White rum: Optional if you want to keep it a mocktail.
  • Ice: Keeps things perfectly chilled.
  • Club soda or sparkling water: Adds the signature fizz.
  • Optional garnish: Extra mint, lime slices, or a fruit skewer make it pretty and festive.
Ingredients to make customizable fruit mojitos laid out

How do you make a customizable fruit mojito?

Here’s how to mix it up like a pro—no cocktail shaker required.

  1. Muddle the base: In a 12- to 16-ounce glass, add the mint leaves, sweetener, lime wedges, and your chosen fruit. Muddle together with a muddler or the back of a spoon until the fruit is juicy and mint is fragrant.
  2. Add the rum and ice: Pour in the white rum (if using), then fill the glass with ice.
  3. Top with fizz: Pour in the club soda or sparkling water. Give it a gentle stir with a straw or bar spoon to combine.
  4. Garnish and sip: Add a sprig of mint, a lime wheel, or a fruit skewer for a pretty presentation.

Customize it your way

Like all of my recipes, this customizable fruit mojito is completely customizable. Choose what fruit, sweetener, and alcohol (or not!) you want to use.

  • Fruit of your choice: Watermelon, blackberries, strawberries, mango, or pineapple switch it up depending on what you’re feeling that day.
  • Sweetener of your choice: Go classic with sugar, for a richer flavor try honey or agave, and for a sugar-free option try stevia or monk fruit.
  • Mocktail or alcohol: Enjoy it as a refreshing alcohol free mocktail, or add white rum for a traditional mojito vie.

Recipe tips and tricks

  • Serving: Mojitos are best served fresh, but you can muddle the fruit, lime, and mint ahead of time and refrigerate for a few hours. Add ice, club soda, and rum (if using) just before serving.
  • Troubleshooting: Too tart? Add sweetener. Too sweet? Add lime or soda (or both).
  • Scaling: Hosting a party? Muddle a large batch of fruit, mint, and lime in a pitcher, then pour over ice and top each glass with club soda individually to keep the fizz.

Can I make them ahead of time?

Sort of! While mojitos are best enjoyed fresh (hello, fizzy bubbles!), you can prep some of the components in advance to save time later.

  • Muddle ahead: Mix the mint, lime, sweetener, and fruit of your choice up to 24 hours in advance. Store this muddled base in an airtight container in the fridge.
  • Assemble when ready: When it’s time to serve, simply add ice, rum (if using), and club soda. Give it a quick stir, garnish, and enjoy!

Pro tip: Don’t add the club soda or sparkling water until right before drinking—it’ll go flat if it sits too long.
