Perfect for game day

Roll up to your next football or game day party with this better-for-you cottage cheese dip. If you really want to impress, pair this dip with a football veggie tray! It’s sure to be a hit!

Is cottage cheese healthy?

Cottage cheese is a quick and budget-friendly snack that is high in protein, with 12 grams of protein per half cup serving. My favorite ways to enjoy this ingredient is in the trending cottage cheese scrambled eggs or in this 3 ingredient queso dip.

As a dietitian, I’m all about the veggies. So to add an extra nutrition boost, we recommend serving this queso with crunchy veggies like carrots, broccoli, and snap peas for a nutrient-dense snack.

Ingredients you’ll need

Nothing beats a high protein dip with only 3 ingredients! Here’s what you’ll need.

  • Cottage cheese: You can use either full-fat or opt for low-fat for a lighter version. Either way, it blends into a smooth base.
  • Shredded cheese: Go classic with cheddar, spicy with pepper jack, or use a blend like mexican blend cheese.
  • Seasoning: We love using a classic taco seasoning but you could also use fajita seasoning to bring a smoky twist.

Swapping for nutritional yeast

If you’re out of shredded cheese or just want to try something new, you can also substitute shredded cheese with nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor—just add 2 tablespoons of water for smooth blending.

How to make it

Blend everything together

Add all the ingredients to a food processor or blender. Blend until completely smooth.

Heat in the microwave

Transfer the dip to a microwave-safe bowl and heat for about 30 seconds to warm it up. If you don’t have a microwave, you can heat in a small pot over medium-low heat for 3-5 minutes until warmed through. You can also enjoy the dip cold.

Serve with dippers

Enjoy this healthy cottage cheese queso dip with tortilla chips and fresh veggies like carrots, broccoli, snap peas, and celery.

Recipe tips and tricks

  • Serving: This dip pairs perfectly with crunchy tortilla chips, veggie sticks, or even as a spread on sandwiches and wraps.
  • Troubleshooting: If the dip is too thick when blending, add a splash of water and try blending again.
  • Scaling: Hosting a party? Double or triple the recipe with ease—just make sure you have a large enough blender to handle the volume.

Customize it your way

Like all of my other recipes, this queso dip is completely customizable. You get to choose what cheese and seasonings you want to use.

  • Cheese of your choice: Feel free to use cheddar, pepper jack, monterey jack, italian five cheese blend, mexican blend, or a vegan cheese.
  • Seasoning of your choice: We mainly recommend something like taco seasoning or fajita seasoning. Feel free to use another seasoning too like an all-purpose seasoning. If you’re watching your sodium, feel free to swap for a low sodium or no-salt version of this seasoning.

Can I add toppings to this cottage cheese queso dip?

If you want to make this dip more visually appealing, feel free to top it with ingredients like sliced jalapenos, shredded cheese, or diced tomatoes. It’s also great with a sprinkle of fresh chopped herbs like cilantro.

Can I make this cottage cheese queso dip ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare this in advance, then just store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Give it a quick stir and reheat before serving.
