What is a breakfast charcuterie board?
Charcuterie boards, also known as snack boards, are all the rage nowadays. Thatโs because theyโre so easy to make while also being instagram-worthy! Theyโre essentially boards filled with a variety of different ingredients like meats, cheese, and dippers. A breakfast charcuterie board follows the same concept by combining a variety of breakfast faves like pancakes, sausage, eggs, and fruit.
What goes on a breakfast charcuterie board?
Like all of my recipes, this beautiful brunch charcuterie board is completely customizableโmix and match from any of the following elements.
1. Pancakes
Pancakes are the star of the show for this board. Feel free to make your own homemade cakes or use a mix. I personally love whipping together these gluten-free oat flour pancakes! If youโre more of a waffle fan, you can sub those too.
2. Sausage
Breakfast sausage is a great way to add in some protein and round out the board with a savory food. As a healthier choice, opt for grass-fed sausages, like these ones from Teton Waters Ranch. I love this brand because they are 100% grass-fed and finished, certified humane, and only contain a handful of ingredients.
If you donโt eat meat, feel free to swap for a plant based breakfast patty.
3. Eggs
Eggs are a breakfast staple. Feel free to cook your preferred method and then add to your board. Itโs typically easiest to scramble or hard boil them. However, you could also try for sunny side up and serve it in a tiny skillet over your board.
If youโre vegan, try scrambling up these vegan eggs from JUST Egg.
4. Fruit & Jams
When it comes to fruit, add over any of your favorites! Popular options include berries, bananas, and orange slices but anything goes here. During the holidays, it’s super fun to serve this board alongside a watermelon christmas tree made with a foam cone too!
I also recommend having some jams to lather over the pancakes. For a healthier jam, try making your own homemade chia seed jam.
5. Toppings & Extras
Donโt leave those pancakes plain. Be sure to have plenty of topping choices on your board. Here are some great options you could include:
- Nut or seed butters
- Yogurt
- Chocolate chips
- Maple syrup
- Butter
- Toasted coconut flakes
- Sliced almonds
- Whip cream
- Homemade granola
What should I put my breakfast charcuterie on?
Itโs usually best to break out your largest wooden board to build your breakfast platter on. If you donโt have a wood board, you could also use a serving tray, cutting board, or lay parchment paper down on a kitchen island and build it on top.
Start by adding pancakes to the center then layer all other ingredients around it. Have fun with it and feel free to look up images for inspiration!
Make your own holiday charcuterie board
The holidays are an ideal time to share a breakfast platter with friends and family. Serve before the day’s festivities or as a weekend brunch board.
You can elevate your board from everyday to extraordinary, by adding fun holiday props alongside your board. This healthy breakfast is filled with a balance of protein and carbohydrates to give you lasting energy throughout the day. Plus, you can easily customize this board it to fit various dietary preferences.
On this board, I’ve used Red’s Egg’Wiches to fill both the “egg” and “sausage” option. Simply microwave from frozen then add to your platter.
