What is a smoothie bowl?

A smoothie bowl is a nutritious breakfast or snack that consists of a thick smoothie poured into a bowl and topped with various toppings such as fruits, nuts, seeds, and granola. Unlike a regular smoothie that is sipped through a straw, a smoothie bowl is meant to be eaten with a spoon, allowing you to savor each bite and eat slower.

For this smoothie bowl, we’re combining a base of frozen bananas and strawberries with nutrient-packed additions like protein powder, berry fruit powder, and yogurt.

Is protein powder healthy?

Protein is essential for muscle growth and repair. Plus, research shows getting enough protein can help you feel full longer. If you’re someone who struggles to get enough throughout the day, protein powders are a super helpful option.

As a dietitian, I love using Naked Nutrition’s line of powders because they contain high quality ingredients without added fillers. For example, the Naked Nutrition Vanilla Whey Protein Powder I’m using for this recipe contains whey protein, coconut sugar, and natural flavor–that’s it! This recipe calls for just 1 scoop, but feel free to add 2 scoops to pump up the protein.

If you’re not a fan of whey protein or following a vegan diet, they also have a ton of vegan options like pea, seed, and rice powders.

What recipes can I use protein powder in?

You can enjoy protein powder mixed with milk or added to recipes. Here’s some creative ones to try:

Is super reds fruit powder healthy?

For this recipe, I’m also using Naked Nutrition’s Super Reds Fruit Powder made with a blend of the following fruits: Apple, Blueberry, Maqui, Cranberry Elderberry, Strawberry, Raspberry, Blackberry, Acai, Dragon Fruit, and Pomegranate.

This is a great supplement to pump up the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in your day. Each scoop contains just 35 calories while packing in 4 grams of dietary fiber.

How do you make this strawberry bowl?

This beautiful pink strawberry smoothie bowl is whipped together in no time. Here’s how to make it.

1. Gather your ingredients

For this recipe, strawberries are the star. Strawberries are packed with antioxidants, which help protect the cells in our body from damage. They’re also a great source of vitamin C, which helps support the immune system.

2. Blend everything together

I like to use the Ninja Smoothie Bowl Maker to make this process seamless, but you can also use a regular blender too. If using a regular blender, you may need to add a bit more milk or mix with a spoon in between a few rounds of blending.

3. Pour into a bowl and add toppings

Now’s time for the fun part! Add to your favorite bowl and top with anything you like. I like topping with more fresh strawberries. I find that the flavor of this bowl tastes exactly like angel food cake with a light whipped topping and strawberries – YUM!

Smoothie bowl tips and tricks

  • Use ripe fruit – Make sure your strawberries and bananas are ripe before freezing. This will lend a sweeter, more desirable flavor.
  • Freeze your fruit solid – Freeze chopped fruit at least overnight or as long as possible so it’s super hard before blending. This will give you a thicker bowl.
  • Prep ahead of time – To save time in the morning, I always like to measure out frozen ingredients in baggies. You can also put all your other ingredients in the blender in the fridge. Then in the morning, you can just add your frozen fruit and blend.

Customize this strawberry smoothie bowl your way

Like all of my other recipes, this smoothie bowl is completely customizable. You get to make the Cheerful Choice with what ingredients you use!

  • Protein powder of choice – For this recipe, we are using vanilla whey powder, but feel free to use another type of protein like soy, pea, seed, or rice. Naked Nutrition has so many different options for all dietary preferences!
  • Milk of your choice – There’s all kinds of different milk options nowadays. Use whichever one you tend to keep in your fridge.
  • Yogurt of your choice – Although I have it written as plain nonfat Greek yogurt, feel free to use your favorite yogurt.
  • Nut butter of your choice – Use whatever you have on hand. If you have a nut allergy, feel free to swap for a seed butter or omit.
  • Toppings of your choice – Anything goes here! Some ideas you might try are more strawberries, bananas, granola, toasted coconut flakes, hemp seeds, chia seeds, or more nut butter.
